Pms Causes Courses
Premenstrual Syndrome, or PMS, is a wide range of physical and psychological symptoms that occur in the one to two weeks leading up to a woman's menstrual period. While the exact cause of PMS is unknown, the fluctuating hormones associated with a woman's menstrual cycle are thought to be a major factor in the development of PMS symptoms. There are many potential causes of PMS and experts have yet to fully understand why some women experience symptoms and other don’t. Some possible contributing factors to PMS include increased sensitivity to certain hormones, a lack of certain vitamins and minerals, poor dietary habits, poor stress management, and genetic makeup. Hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone can all affect PMS symptoms in different ways. During the menstrual cycle, the body usually produces too much estrogen, which in turn can cause symptoms of PMS. Similarly, when progesterone levels are too low during the menstrual cycle, difficulty managing stress or anxiety, irritability, and fatigue may be symptoms. Inadequate dietary habits can also contribute to PMS and many women find that their symptoms are relieved by implementing a healthier diet and exercise routine. Lack of certain vitamins, such as B6, magnesium, and calcium, have all been linked to the onset of PMS symptoms. Therefore, increasing your intake of these vitamins, in addition to balancing your diet, can help prevent or lessen the severity of PMS symptoms. There are many potential causes of PMS, and every woman experiences PMS differently. It is important to talk to a physician or healthcare provider if you are experiencing consistent or intense symptoms before or during your menstrual cycle. With the right treatment, it is possible to minimize the discomfort of PMS and make it more manageable.
