Prea Training Courses
Prea Training Courses are specialised programs that provide their participants with the skills necessary to manage institutional and individual operations related to the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Fields of concentration range from PREA standards and policies to understanding risk assessment and sexual assault prevention to addressing sexual victimization of vulnerable populations. Completing a PREA Training Course is a requirement for any person(s) who oversees a facility that is subject to regulation under the Act. It is an essential part of Risk Management and promotes better relationships between staff and inmates while helping to prevent, detect, and respond to prison rape. Prea Training Courses are typically offered through approved organizations, through private companies specializing in professional education, and at accredited institutions. During a Prea Training Course, participants will gain proficiency in topics related to the PREA including: -An introduction to the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 -Overview of recent research on Prison Rape Elimination -Detailed overview of data collection statistics and other measures -Risk assessment and management -Understanding Human Sexuality -Understanding Consent in Correctional Settings -Sexual Assault Prevention -Response to incidents of Sexual Violence -Support Services for Victims of Sexual Assault -Victim outreach and criminal investigation of Sexual Assault allegations In addition to gaining proficiency in the aforementioned topics, participants in PREA Training Courses will also benefit from discussions on latest trends in sexual violence prevention and effective strategies for responding to allegations of abuse and creating an inmate environment that is conducive to promoting safety and the prevention of sexual victimization. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to better understand the Prison Rape Elimination Act and its implications in a correctional setting.
