Ucd Preceptorship Course

UCD Preceptorship is a course designed to prepare you with the skills needed to serve as a preceptor in an organized and coordinated health care setting. The course gives you an opportunity to learn to understand and use the various preceptorship roles, tools, and strategies to provide competent, effective, and safe clinical care. The course is comprised of five modules. The first module introduces you to the roles, tools and strategies of a successful preceptor. It reviews the importance of building credibility, setting expectations, and promoting peer learning. The second module covers practical tools and strategies related to being an effective preceptor. This includes how to develop relationships, communicate effectively, motivate learners, give feedback, assess learning needs, and evaluate outcomes. The third module explores strategies for creating a positive learning environment. This includes recognizing and managing learner stress, providing support and resources, managing expectations, and promoting reflective practice. The fourth module looks at challenges and competencies related to ethical and regulatory issues in preceptorship. Finally, the fifth module focuses on challenges and competencies related to the evaluation and integration of learning. This course will equip you to effectively serve as a preceptor in a variety of clinical settings. It is suitable for health care professionals looking to develop their preceptorship skills or those who are considering preceptorship as a career opener. Those who successfully complete this class will be eligible to take the Certified Preceptor exam offered by the American Association of Preceptors.
