Ranganathaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Ranganatha, located in Srirangam, Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the most important of the108 Divya Desam (holy shrines) of Vaishnavism, and is believed to be the largest temple in India. A major part of the temple lies in the Srirangam island, surrounded by the Kaveri River. The temple is celebrated for its architecture, and is made up of 19 shrines, seven main towers, 32 shrines, seven main corridors and nine courts, as well as many hundreds of sub-shrines. The main deity of this temple is the Hindu god Ranganatha, a form of the supreme god Vishnu. Ranganathaswamy Temple is also known as Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, and is the principal temple of the Vaishnaivite Sampradaya. The temple complex was built in the 11th century CE, by the Chola Dynasty. It is believed to be the largest temple complex in India. The temple is one of the most sacred places in Vaishnavism, and is home to many festivals throughout the year, such as the Adi Brahmotsavam, Panguni Uthiram, Ekadashi or Vaikunta Ekadashi, and Diwali or Deepavali. The temple is also known for its incredible architecture, with its towers reaching up to 30 stories high. The main temple complex contains 19 shrines, along with numerous other buildings and courtyards, and is truly a sight to behold. The temple is managed by the Trust Board, who are responsible for maintaining the important rituals and festivals of the temple. The temple also hosts several festivals and events throughout the year, making it a popular destination for pilgrims and tourists alike.
