Purpuras Courses

Purpuras is a dermatological condition, which is characterized by reddish-purple discolourations on the skin. It may affect any part of the body, although it is most common on the face, back, legs, chest and arms. It is particularly seen in children and adolescents. The cause of purpuras is not known and is thought to be due to a combination of factors including trauma, genetics, and medical conditions. Purpuras may be associated with a variety of medical conditions, such as Kawasaki disease, immune thrombocytopenic purpura, scarlet fever, and leukaemia. It is important to note that purpuras may not always be a symptom of an underlying medical problem. The red or purple spots may look like bruises, but do not generally respond to normal treatment for bruises. Treatment options for purpuras involve the use of cold compresses or topical steroids to reduce the irritation. If purpuras are associated with a particular medical condition, the treatment should focus on the underlying cause. People with purpuras should keep the affected skin clean and dry at all times. They should avoid activities which may cause further irritation to the skin.
