Powerline Causes Cancer Courses
It is not possible to definitively claim that powerlines are a cause of cancer. There is a lack of evidence linking long-term exposure to powerlines and cancer in humans. Some laboratory studies have suggested that powerline exposures may be associated with an increased risk of cancer in animals. However, these studies have major limitations and it is not clear if the same results would apply to humans. The World Health Organization (WHO) has evaluated the potential link between human exposure to powerlines and cancer. It concluded that current evidence does not confirm a link between these exposures and an increased risk of cancer in humans. However, the WHO did acknowledge that laboratory studies suggest that low levels of electromagnetic fields may influence some biological processes. Given the lack of clear evidence linking powerlines to cancer in humans, it is important to take precautions when possible to reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields. If living or working near high-voltage powerlines, it is a good idea to consult with a local expert before deciding whether to move. Additionally, there are other potential sources of electromagnetic radiation to consider, such as cell phones and Wi-Fi.
