Phyllis Corso Courses
Phyllis Corso is an American artist and sculptor, best known for her work in public art. She is famed for her monumental sculptures, which often draw upon symbolism from ancient mythology, and for the humorous, interactive elements of her installations. Corso's artwork is often described as displaying the 'humane side of our abstract technological age'. Much of her work reflects her interest in a traditional view of life, with a particular focus on the unity between the Earth and the human experience. As such, her sculptures and installations often emphasize the relationship between people and their surrounding environment. Corso's work has been featured in many American and international museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Corso's artwork has also earned her numerous honors and awards, including fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts (1989) and the Guggenheim Foundation (1992). Corso currently works out of her studio in Seattle, Washington, where she continues to work on her art, creating innovative installations and sculptures that bring her unique vision to viewers. Her work has been exhibited extensively throughout the world, and she often travels to work on larger installations, such as her artist-in-residence programs in South Korea and Japan.
