Philosophy Courses Texas State
Philosophy courses at Texas State University offer students an opportunity to explore the history of philosophical thought as well as to develop an understanding of current philosophical theories. Department courses cover a broad range of philosophical subjects from moral and ethical theories, to metaphysics, to aesthetics. This curriculum creates an opportunity for students to examine the relevance of philosophy in daily life. A variety of courses are available for the student interested in philosophy. Foundation courses include Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophy, Contemporary Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, and Aesthetics. For those wishing to go deeper, advanced topics in Medieval and Renaissance Philosophy, Logic, Metaphysics, and Ethics are offered. Indepth study of the history of Western philosophy is provided in the capstone course, History of Philosophy. Special topics seminars may focus on societal issues, exploring the role of ethical frameworks and philosophical principles. Philosophy courses offer students an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving. The skills acquired in philosophy classes promote critical thinking and are useful in preparing for such challenging issues as social, political, and international relations. These courses equip students with the knowledge and tools they need to become effective contributors to their workplaces and communities.
