Orv Safety Course Michigan

Michigan has one of the most comprehensive off-road/all-terrain vehicle (ORV) Safety Courses available. The state was one of the first to recognize the need to provide training to operators of ORVs. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) began offering the ORV Safety Certificate Course in the spring of 2005. The course consists of online, classroom, and hands-on training activities. The online portion of the course provides an overview of Michigan ORV laws, safety rules and regulations, and proper ORV handling techniques. The classroom portion is held at DNR authorized education centers around the state and provides more in-depth instruction on ORV safety. The hands-on portion of the course is conducted at an ORV Riding Area or a Department of Natural Resources center, depending on the location, and provides the opportunity to safely practice the skills learned in the classroom. At the completion of the ORV Safety Certificate Course, participants will have the knowledge and skills they need to safely and legally operate an ORV on public lands in Michigan. The state of Michigan also offers special safety courses for those 16 and under. This course is approved by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and is designed to teach young ORV operators the basics of safe ATV driving on public lands.
