Oab Causes Courses

OAB stands for Overactive Bladder, which describes a condition of the urinary tract characterized by sudden and often urgent needing to urinate. OAB causes a person to experience frequent, urgent and sometimes uncontrollable urination. This can lead to a frustrating and disruptive lifestyle and OAB can also be a symptom of an underlying health problem. The most common cause of OAB is the presence of a bladder muscle abnormality known as an overactive bladder. This condition is caused by a miscommunication between the brain and the bladder, in which the nerves in the bladder are overly sensitive and cause it to contract too often when it shouldn’t. Other possible causes of OAB include nerve or muscle damage, weak pelvic floor muscles or obstruction of the flow of urine such as a bladder stone or enlarged prostate. Other possible causes of OAB include lifestyle factors such as diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, drugs, and insufficient fluid intake. Some medications, such as decongestants and antihistamines, can have side effects that affect the bladder and lead to OAB. Bladder irritants, such as caffeine and artificial sweeteners, can also cause OAB. Neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease can also lead to OAB, as these conditions can interfere with bladder control. It’s important to speak to a doctor to get properly diagnosed and to receive advice about treatment. Depending on the cause and severity of the OAB, treatment options may include medication, lifestyle changes, bladder retraining, or surgery.
