What Causes Gout Courses

Gout is a type of arthritis whose main symptom is excess uric acid in joints and tissues, causing joint stiffness and swelling. The condition is very painful and can interfere with everyday activities. There are a few common causes of gout. One is an increase in the amount of uric acid in the blood. Hyperuricemia occurs when the body is unable to process the excess uric acid. The second cause of gout is kidney failure. When the kidneys can no longer filter out uric acid, the levels build up in the bloodstream. A third cause of gout is dehydration. Dehydration increases the risk of hyperuricemia because it results in the body not being able to efficiently rid the bloodstream of the uric acid. Finally, dietary choices can play a role in gout development. Eating foods that are high in purines, especially organ meats, can cause extreme spikes in uric acid levels. Similarly, drinking alcohol, especially beer, can also put strain on the kidneys, leading to increased uric acid levels. Overall, the key factor in the development of gout is an increase in uric acid levels in the blood. This can be caused by an increase in the amount of uric acid produced, kidney failure, dehydration, or dietary choices. If you are at risk for gout, it is important to pay attention to lifestyle choices that may increase your chances of developing this painful condition.

15 TRIGGERS OF GOUT - WHAT CAUSES GOUT? - GOUT PATIENTS

Estimated Reading Time 10 mins
  • Kidney Problems. Generally, the excess uric acid in your body is eliminated with the help of your kidneys and if you have any problems with your kidneys then the elimination of uric acid becomes a problem.
  • Through Diet Sources. According to many studies that almost 10-15% of purines is fed to the body through our diet. The increase of purines in the body means that your body produces more uric acid and it will lead to gout.
  • Sugary Beverages rich in Fructose. Research also indicates that intake of sugary beverages that contain high levels of fructose also increase the production of uric acid in your body.
  • Intake of Diuretics. Another important factor that triggers gout is the intake of diuretics. These diuretics leads to the stoppage of uric acid secretion from the kidneys as it reabsorbs all the uric acid that is about to be eliminated thus causing the uric acid levels to rise to larger levels.
  • Too much Alcohol. Another major factor that increases the levels of uric acid in your body is drinking too much alcohol. People having a habit of taking too much alcohol have a significant risk in getting affected by gout.
  • Hypothyroidism. Patients suffering from hypothyroidism are found to be easily affected with gout attacks. These hypothyroid patients have thyroid hormones that help in the stimulation of uric acid production in the body.
  • Obesity. According to many studies, that obesity is also a major trigger for gout-related diseases. When you are obese, the fatty tissues inside the body helps in stimulating the increased production of uric acid in your body.
  • Genetic Reasons. It is also a proven fact that genetic reasons are also a major factor in causing gout attacks. If any of your family members have been diagnosed with gout earlier, then there is a high risk of you getting affected with gout as the gene UCP2 increases the concentration of blood urate levels and hence increasing the levels of uric acid in your blood.
  • Sex Hormones. Men are more susceptible to gout attacks than women as men are generally found to have more uric acid levels in the blood than women. Hence, men are more at risk of getting affected by gout.
  • Older Age. Men who are over the age of 75 have a high risk of getting easily affected by gout uric acid level content in the body increases with your age.
