Virginia State Bar Professionalism Course
The Virginia State Bar Professionalism Course is designed to promote excellence and the highest standards of ethical conduct for members of the legal profession. This six-hour course takes a look at the significance of the practice of law and the ethical responsibilities of lawyers both to their clients and their communities. The course is divided into two main modules: Professionalism & Responsibility and Professionalism & Legal Practice. The Professionalism & Responsibility module examines the importance of maintaining high ethical standards, professionalism in the practice of law, professionalism in practice before the court, and the roles of bar organizations in the practice of law. The Professionalism & Legal Practice module takes a closer look at the importance of civility and the roles of attorneys in the legal system. The course includes interactive exercises, class discussions and lectures to help attorneys understand the importance of maintaining ethical standards and professionalism in the practice of law. At the end of the course, participants can take a test to receive a certification of completion. This certificate is deemed to be evidence that the attorney has attained a certain level of understanding of professional conduct and ethical responsibility. The Virginia State Bar provides free online ethics course resources, including sample questions, to all interested attorneys as part of the professionalism course. The Virginia State Bar Professionalism Course is an invaluable way to ensure that attorneys understand their ethical obligations, trustworthiness, and integrity in all areas of their practice. It raises the bar for professionalism and encourages attorneys to actively pursue excellence in their practice.
