Usf High Impact Practice Courses

The University of South Florida offers High Impact Practices courses that are designed to engage students and enhance their understanding of their academic courses. These High Impact Practices (HIPs) foster increased community engagement and help to build a community of active learners. Through these courses, students gain academic and personal success while participating in meaningful service projects, research opportunities, and other elements of higher education. HIPs courses involve a unique, creative approach to teaching and learning. They use problem-based, collaborative learning strategies that allow students to actively participate in their academic and community life. In these courses, students design and implement projects, analyze complex issues, and apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios. Some popular HIPs courses include Special Topics in Service Learning, Undergraduate Research, Community-Based Writing and Presentation, Interdisciplinary Scholarship, and International Internships. Students who take these courses often come away with a deeper understanding of their field, develop valuable skills and experience, and gain an appreciation for the relationships and impact their work has in the community. The High Impact Practices courses help to develop autonomy and foster a sense of responsibility in the student community. Additionally, these courses help to create a supportive and connected atmosphere for students, and can also remind students of their role as citizens and agents of change within the larger world. At USF, students have the opportunity to become a part of a diverse community, while engaging in challenging and meaningful experiences. Through the High Impact Practices courses, students have the chance to get a first-hand look at the issues that are affecting our society and gain a better understanding of their potential to make a positive difference.
