Rosacea Causes Food Courses
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes redness and inflammation of the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead, and eyelids. While the exact cause of rosacea is unknown, there is evidence to suggest that certain foods can trigger or worsen symptoms. Foods and beverages high in histamine, such as processed foods, alcohol, and certain cheeses, are thought to be potential triggers for rosacea flares. Histamine is a chemical released in response to an allergic reaction, and consuming items with an abundance of this chemical can cause facial redness, swelling, and acne-like pimples. Interestingly, some research has found that people with rosacea may be more likely to react to histamine-containing foods than people without the skin condition. Spicy foods, hot drinks, and dietary supplements high in niacin have also been associated with rosacea flares. It’s important for those with rosacea to identify which foods may be triggering their symptoms and to avoid those items in their diet. Keeping a food diary or consulting a healthcare provider may be helpful in finding the specific culprits in a person’s diet.
