Risperdal Causes Lactation Courses
Risperdal (risperidone), an atypical antipsychotic medication, is known to cause lactation in some individuals. This is especially true for women, although it has also been seen in some men. Lactation typically occurs when Risperdal is taken at higher doses. It’s more likely to happen in individuals who are younger and have not experienced natural childbirth. Lactation caused by Risperdal typically involves a small amount of milk, which is usually clear or yellow. It can occur within a few days or weeks of starting the medication. The amount may fluctuate or remain fairly consistent. It’s important to tell your doctor right away if you notice your breasts producing milk while taking Risperdal. This is especially true if you aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding. Medication adjustments may be necessary to reduce or eliminate lactation. It’s not always possible to avoid Risperdal-induced lactation. In some cases, other strategies may be needed to reduce the amount of milk produced, such as wearing a supportive bra, cold compresses, and loose clothing. Additionally, other medications may be needed to suppress lactation, such as dopamine agonists and hormone therapy. All of these should be discussed with a doctor to determine the best course of action for a given individual.
