Rhinorrhea Causes Courses
Rhinorrhea is a medical term for a runny nose. It is caused when excess nasal mucous is produced and flows out of the nasal passages. Rhinorrhea can be caused by a number of things, including allergies, colds, the flu, and sinus infections. Allergies are one of the most common causes of rhinorrhea. Allergies occur when a person's immune system reacts to a foreign substance, such as pollen, dust, or pet dander. This reaction causes the release of histamines, which in turn lead to increased mucous production from the nose. This excess mucous then flows out, creating the common symptoms associated with a runny nose. Another common cause of rhinorrhea is the common cold and influenza (the flu). Both of these viruses cause the body to produce excess mucous in order to fight off the virus. This mucous then flows out of the nose, causing a runny nose. Sinus infections can also cause rhinorrhea. Sinus infections occur when the tissue inside the sinuses become inflamed, which can lead to increased mucous production. This mucous then flows out of the nose, causing a runny nose. In some cases, rhinorrhea can be caused by an infection or inflammation of the nasal passages. This is known as rhinitis and can be caused by viral or bacterial infections. As the nasal passages become inflamed, they produce excess mucous, which then flows out of the nose and creates a runny nose. Rhinorrhea can also be caused by physical irritants, such as strong odors, cigarette smoke, and air pollution. These irritants cause the tissue inside the nose to become inflamed, which can lead to increased mucous production. The mucous then flows out of the nose, resulting in a runny nose.
