Resveratrol Sources Food Courses
Resveratrol is a naturally-occurring polyphenol found in certain foods and drinks. It has become increasingly popular in recent years for its potential health benefits, from reducing inflammation and fighting oxidative stress to improving cardiovascular health. Fortunately, there are many great resveratrol sources found in food that can help you get your recommended daily allowance of this powerful compound. One of the richest sources of resveratrol is red wine. While many people enjoy a glass of merlot or cabernet sauvignon to get their daily dose, there are more moderate amounts found in rose, white wine and sparkling white wines, as well. Another excellent food source is dark chocolate. Cocoa powder and dark chocolate bars with a high percentage of cocoa solids all contain good quantities of resveratrol. Grapes are best known for their resveratrol content, with dried grapes containing the highest concentrations. Blueberries and cranberries are other excellent sources, as is raspberries and especially concord grape juice. Nuts, particularly peanuts and pistachios, contain moderate amounts of resveratrol, but it is important to note that most of the resveratrol content is lost when the nuts are salted. Lastly, there are a number of plants that contain resveratrol, including echinacea, Japanese Knotwood (Fallopia japonica), Chinese Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis), and the roots of Chinese sweetleaf (Saposhnikovia divaricata) and Polygonum cuspidatum, which are all often used in traditional Chinese medicine. Including all of these amazing food sources of resveratrol in your diet can help ensure you get your daily recommended allowance of this powerful compound and reap the many health benefits it offers.
