Resistive Source Degeneration Courses


Resistive source degeneration is a technique used to improve the voltage gain of an amplifier. It consists of adding an extra resistor in series with a current source in the amplifier’s input circuit. This resistor reduces the effective resistance of the source, which increases the current through the source and at the same time reduces the voltage across it. The result is a larger voltage gain for the amplifier. The addition of the series resistor also improves the amplifier’s stability by improving the source impedance. By reducing the source impedance, the amplifier is less susceptible to changes in the load. Additionally, it can reduce the level of noise and distortion introduced into the circuit from the source. When using resistive source degeneration, care should be taken to make sure the resistor is correctly sized. Too large of a resistor will reduce the voltage gain of the amplifier, while too small of a resistor may cause instability. The exact size of the resistor will depend on the application and should be designed accordingly. In summary, resistive source degeneration is a technique used to improve the voltage gain and stability of an amplifier. By adding an extra resistor in series with a current source in the input circuit, the source resistance is reduced, which increases the current through the source. This, in turn, results in a larger voltage gain from the amplifier, as well as improved stability. The size of the resistor must be carefully chosen for optimum performance.
