Rekenrek Class Set Courses
A rekenrek class set is an educational tool used to teach early mathematical concepts in the classroom. Developed by Dutch mathematician, educational theorist, and teacher, Dienke Hondius, a rekenrek consists of a wooden frame with ten red and ten white beads on each row, totaling twenty beads per row. The frame is designed for children to hold and manipulate, with space for each bead to move back and forth to represent numbers. Since its invention, rekenrek has been used in many classrooms as a key component of teaching mathematics. It encourages children to use their hands and eyes to both count and manipulate to explore and identify patterns in numbers. Rekenrek also helps children to develop their concentration and understanding of numbers and counting. Through different activities involving the manipulation of beads, children strengthen their abilities to work with numbers. It encourages children to practice counting and skip counting, and assists them in developing an understanding of place value and basic addition and subtraction. A rekenrek class set contains materials essential for instructing children effectively. Commonly, a rekenrek class set includes: ten wooden frames, two hundred beads (ten red and ten white beads per frame), and ten number cards (which represent the red and white beads in a frame). This set also can come with additional beads, like yellow and green ones, to help identify different arrays. All in all, a rekenrek class set provides a hands-on learning experience for children. It’s an invaluable educational tool for introducing young learners to basic mathematics and honing their mathematical skills.
