Rebus Courses
A rebus (pronounced REE-buhs) is a puzzle involving pictures or symbols that represent a word, phrase, or phrase. The term comes from the Latin “rebus sic stantibus,” which translates as “that which stands for something else.” For example, if a puzzle contains a picture of a windmill and an owl, the solution might be “millowl.” Rebuses can range from extremely simple to extremely difficult. Simple rebus puzzles often contain images of common objects, such as a house for “home” or a heart for “love.” Difficult rebus puzzles may involve more elaborate symbols or words, such as “road rage” represented by a picture of a car and an angry face. Rebus puzzles can be used as a creative way to explore language and new vocabulary. They can also be used to develop problem-solving skills and lateral thinking. They are popular with puzzle enthusiasts of all ages and can often be found in newspapers, magazines, activity books, and online.
