Raggasonic is a French hip-hop group formed in 1990 in Marseille. It consists of two emcees, Fefa and Morsay, who are known for their provocative lyrics and primitive yet effective beats. The group first made a name for themselves in 1992 when they released a four-track demo titled "Le Blédard Chante". This demo caught the attention of many hip-hop fans in France and beyond who were attracted to Raggasonic’s hard-hitting, no-holds-barred style. Though Raggasonic's popularity initially spread by word of mouth, it exploded after the release of the single “Raggasonic 93” in 1992. The track is an ode to the French Way of life, featuring references to the country’s famous regions, culture, cuisine, and political turmoil. The single quickly became a hit, garnering airplay on major French radio stations and achieving platinum status in France. Raggasonic released their debut album, Rare, in 1993, featuring collaborations with Krs-One and other guest MCs. The album proved to be a huge success, selling over 2 million copies and reaching gold status in the US. Subsequent albums such as Raggasonic 2 and Raggasonic 3 continued the group’s popularity, with their blunt, yet humorous lyrics proving to be a hit with fans. Today, Raggasonic is seen as one of the most important French hip-hop groups of their era, and their influence is still felt in the French rap scene. Combining humor and hardcore gangster rap, the group helped to redefine hip-hop in France and beyond.
