Radiologist Classes Needed Courses
A radiologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating medical conditions by using medical imaging technology. To become a radiologist, one must first complete a minimum of four years of medical school and an additional three to five years of specialization training in radiology. The classes needed to become a radiologist vary depending on the school. Generally, however, a student takes a combination of required and elective courses, depending on the program. Required courses often include anatomy, biology, physics, and chemistry, as well as courses specific to the radiology field. Elective courses might include: radiographic techniques and imaging equipment, radiation sciences, nuclear medicine, and contrast media and techniques. In addition to taking courses, future radiologists have several other requirements during their training. These include clinical rotations in different imaging modalities, verification of clinical competency in the radiology field, and supervised clinical experience. Once these requirements are met, the radiologist can become a fully certified and licensed physician. Radiologists must stay abreast of advances in medical imaging technology and treatments, so they may be required to take continuing education classes throughout their careers. This allows the radiologists to stay up to date on the latest techniques and treatments in the field.
