Quinceanera Courts Courses

A quinceañera court is the court of honor in a traditional quinceañera celebration. The court typically consists of an odd number of people, usually seven, and contains four males and three females. The males are referred to as chambelanes and the females as damas de honor. Members of the quinceañera court play important roles in the ceremony and celebration, offering support to the quinceañera throughout the evening. The chambelanes are chosen for their importance in the quinceañera’s life. These male attendants could be cousins, close friends, or, if the young woman cannot find enough attendants from among those she knows, her father, father’s brother, or even a classmate from school. The chambelanes are responsible for escorting the quinceañera to and from the church when she is presented in a religious ceremony, and for performing specific actions during the reception. They could be asked to lead the procession at the reception and to personally hand the quinceañera her bouquet of flowers. The damas de honor are usually female teenage family members or close friends of the quinceañera who offer support and friendship through this transitional period in her life. In the ceremony, they are expressed as the quinceañera’s confidants, best friends, and spiritual sisters. The damas typically proceed behind the quinceañera during the reception, often wearing matching dresses. The quinceañera court is typically one of the most important parts of the celebration and functions as a reminder of the support network that surrounds the quinceañera throughout this special time in her life.
