Quetiapine Cause Seizures Courses

Quetiapine is an antipsychotic medication mostly used to treat schizophrenia, but it is also used to treat bipolar disorder and occasionally major depressive disorder. It can cause seizures in some patients, usually those who have a history of seizure disorders, those taking high doses of the medication, and those who use other drugs that can increase the risk of having a seizure. The risk of having a seizure with quetiapine is likely to be even higher when combined with some other medications such as antipsychotics, tricyclic antidepressants, and bupropion. Patients taking quetiapine should be aware of the potential risk of having a seizure, and should alert their doctor if they have any symptoms or a history of seizures. Symptoms of a seizure can include sudden jerking movements or loss of consciousness, disorientation or confusion, feeling strange or disassociated, and convulsions. Patients should contact their doctor immediately if they experience any of these symptoms. There are some measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of seizure, such as avoiding drugs like alcohol, amphetamines, hypnotics, barbiturates, and cocaine and avoiding sudden withdrawal from quetiapine or other equivalent medications. If symptoms of a seizure occur while taking quetiapine, the patient should immediately seek medical attention.
