Pwr Courses Stanford

PWR (Programs in Writing and Rhetoric) courses at Stanford University provide students with the tools to better comprehend oral and written communication. The Program's primary goal is to help students sharpen their written and rhetorical skills necessary for success in the world today. Through PWR courses, students expand their knowledge of rhetorical theories and practices, such as argumentation and persuasion, literary analysis, and public speaking. PWR courses also instruct students on analyzing and interpreting media messages and cultural contexts of audience members in an effort to ensure effective communication with any given audience. PWR courses are offered at every stage of a degree program, from introductory courses such as PWR 1: Introduction to Academic Writing to specialized courses pertaining to various topics such as Writing Across Cultures, Rhetoric and Media Analysis, and Professional Writing. In addition, PWR courses are designed to develop a wide variety of writing skills, allowing students to craft and express their thoughts in numerous ways. Depending on their interests, students can pursue their studies through researching, drafting and editing, writing for digital media, and crafting narrative nonfiction. By taking PWR courses and furthering their knowledge of the basic principles of rhetoric and writing, Stanford students become well-rounded communicators who have the ability to effectively communicate in all sorts of contexts.
