Purvis Corsicana is a small town located in Navarro County in northeastern Texas. It was founded in 1870 by Alexander Purvis, an ex-slave from Georgia. The area was originally known as Pursleyville, but was changed to Purvis in 1881. At the turn of the 20th Century, the area was largely agricultural and ranching. With the discovery of oil in 1924 and the rediscovery of one of the state's oldest salt domes in 1933, Purvis and Navarro County began to boom.
