Promenades Couserans Courses

Promenades Couserans are a network of marked trails in the French Pyrenees that take visitors on an explorative journey through nature and help them discover the beauty of the area. The trails start and finish in the village of St. Girons in the Ariège and cover various levels of difficulty. The most popular trail is the Grand Trace des Traverses, which is a single, almost circular loop of more than 100km. It is accessible from both the north and the south and will take you through the abundant wilderness of the Pyrenees. Depending on the number of days you have to explore, you can divide the hike into smaller sections and rest in the mountain villages or campsites along the way. The trail is perfectly marked with many red-and-white ‘balisage’ signs, making it easy to follow. You will find them close to intersections, so pay attention to your route and make sure to take photos of the signs in case you ever find yourself confused. The other trails in the network range from gentle walks in the Vallespir area to more difficult paths with steep descents and mountainous terrain. No matter what, the wonderful views of the mountains and sea will always be worth it. The routes offer many cultural points, historical sites, and activities such as mountain biking and canoeing, so you can plan a day of different activities to make your journey even more enjoyable. Promenades Couserans is a great way to get to know the Pyrenees Mountains in a relaxed and enjoyable way. The region has some of the most stunning and unique natural features in the world, so why not take a few days and hike the trails to full appreciate and experience them?
