Probation Classes Courses

Probation classes, or court-mandated classes, are educational courses taken by those on probation to complete certain requirements set by the court system or their probation officers. The classes are designed to teach life skills, help those on probation build coping and resiliency skills, and foster personal accountability. They aim to strengthen the individual’s support network, provide job-readiness educations, and create a better support system for those on probation so they can become productive members of their communities. The classes offered can depend on the individual’s offense and case, but they typically include topics such as employment training, anger management, decision making, drug and alcohol awareness, job-seeking skills, communication classes, financial literacy, and restoration of rights. There are usually between 10-15 one-hour classes, and participants are expected to attend every class, take quizzes, and complete all homework assignments. Completion of court-mandated classes is a requirement for those on probation and failure to complete these classes can lead to parole violations and other legal ramifications. However, those who successfully complete probation classes and fulfill their probation conditions can often have their charges reduced or even dropped. Therefore, probation classes provide a valuable opportunity for those on probation to improve their lives and take an important step toward recognizing and fulfilling their civic responsibilities.
