Prisoner Education Trust Courses
Prisoner Education Trust (PET) courses are designed to provide prisoners with the opportunity to get real qualifications. These courses offer tailored tuition to support and assist individuals with basic skills and qualifications, as well as in-depth studies in a range of areas such as functional skills, art and design, IT, sports, mindfulness and business. The Prisoner Education Trust (PET) works in partnership with universities and other education providers to deliver learning and qualifications that enable prisoners to develop their potential and prepare for life and work outside of custody. The classes have been developed to provide learners with the skills and qualifications needed to succeed on release. The courses are taught by experienced professionals and are tailored to meet a wide range of learning needs. They are specifically designed to address the barriers that prisoners may face when embarking on education, such as low self-esteem, lack of confidence and other issues that may prevent them from succeeding. The qualifications prisoners can gain through the PET courses are recognised throughout the UK, which could help them to secure employment after release, improve their future prospects and make a positive contribution to society. In order to enrol in a Prisoner Education Trust course, individual prisons must apply to the PET, who will then assess the prisoner’s suitability to participate in the programme. The rest of the process is individual-focused, and each participant’s programme is tailored to meet their specific needs and goals. Prisoner Education Trust courses are designed to provide prisoners with the opportunity to gain qualifications and skills which will help them take control of their futures, and make a positive contribution to society when they re-enter the community.
