Principalship Degree Course
A Principalship Degree course equips those interested in pursuing a career in educational leadership with the skills, knowledge and qualifications necessary to be successful. The curriculum of a Principalship Degree course may vary by institution, but will typically cover strategy and policy development, school finance, school law, curriculum development, staff and community relations, student assessment and evaluation of instructional methods, among others. Generally, a successful completion of this type of degree will lead to certification or licensure in educational administration. The skills developed in a Principalship Degree course are invaluable for both aspiring and established principals. In addition to outlining the various responsibilities associated with a school principal, courses can touch on the implementation of new technology in educational settings, the creation of school-wide programs designed to address problems related to bullying, drug use, and learning disabilities, and the creation of effective accountability systems. Some courses may additionally explore the ethical roles of school leaders, the development of supportive systems that foster relationship building, and methods of engaging students and parents in activities to improve school functioning. Many courses also challenge students to think critically and outside of the box in order to better serve their student population. A skillset developed in this type of program is beneficial not only to established principals, but also to other administrators such as deans or athletic directors who may be looking to progress within their current educational setting. Principalship courses endeavour to help all program participants develop the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully lead the culture and operations of a school.
