Pravastatin Courses
Pravastatin is a prescription medication that belongs to a class of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or statins. It is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by helping to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the bloodstream. It is commonly used to treat patients with hyperlipidemia or high cholesterol, and it is also used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to help reduce the risk of further cardiovascular events such as strokes or heart attacks. Pravastatin works by blocking an enzyme, known as HMG-CoA reductase, which is needed in order for the body to produce cholesterol. By blocking this enzyme, the body cannot produce as much cholesterol and instead the existing cholesterol is reduced. Pravastatin is generally taken in tablet form by mouth once a day. Common side effects associated with pravastatin may include constipation, diarrhea, headaches, nausea, and vomiting. More serious side effects may include chest pain, difficulty breathing, a rapid heartbeat, and yellowing of the skin and eyes. Patients taking pravastatin should take it as directed by their doctor and keep their doctor informed of any changes in their symptoms. If they experience any serious side effects they should stop taking pravastatin and seek medical attention immediately.
