Pranamasana Courses
Pranamasana or Namaskarasana is a traditional Indian yoga pose that translates to “Salutation Pose” or “Greeting Pose”. It is an important pose that serves as an introductory pose at the start of a yoga sequence. The position involves the practitioner bowing or folding of the body in a gesture of respect and honor. The pose brings the hands together in front of the heart, known as Namaste (I honor the spirit within you). This is a very basic yoga posture that helps one to strengthen the body, center and balance the spine, and release tension in the body. By folding forward and bringing both hands together in front of the body, the yogi is asked to cultivate awareness and bring an attitude of surrender and respect. Pranamasana also helps focus the mind and bring the practitioner into a meditative state. On a physical level, the pose strengthens the back muscles and can be beneficial to the spine. In the spiritual tradition, Pranamasana is often thought to be a way of honoring the divine within and around each individual. By bowing in this pose, the yogi is expressing a complete surrender of the ego and a connection to the one source from which all life comes. Whether Pranamasana is used as part of a yoga practice or for its intended spiritual meaning, it is a powerful and meaningful posture. This opening pose can help to bring harmony to the body, mind, and soul.
