Ponytail Causes Headache Courses
Headaches caused by ponytails are a common occurrence, especially among those who wear their hair in a tightly pulled back and secured style. The tightness of the ponytail can cause tension in the scalp, as well as in the forehead and neck muscles, which can result in a headache. The discomfort typically worsens over time, leading to throbbing pain, localized tenderness, or general achiness in the head or neck. The most common cause of headache-related ponytail pain is tension in the scalp muscles. If the ponytail is pulled back very tight, the scalp muscles can be strained, leading to pain and discomfort. Pulling the hair into the desired style can also cause tension in the neck, jaw and forehead muscles, as these muscles are all connected to the scalp. Additionally, tension-type headaches can occur if the scalp muscles are constantly being pulled tight and held in an unnatural position for a long period of time. To reduce the chances of frequent headaches caused by a ponytail, it's wise to opt for a less tight ponytail style. When tying the hair back, it's best to avoid pulling the elastic too tightly, as this may cause localized inflammation and painful pressure. If possible, switch the ponytail position frequently to ensure that the scalp muscles aren't constantly stretched in the same direction. It's also important that the scalp is moisturized and well-conditioned so that it won't be susceptible to the strain of constantly being pulled tight. If all else fails and the headache continues, try loosening the ponytail or taking it down altogether for a few hours.
