Ponderas is a medical research center, located at the Univeristy of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iasi, Romania. Founded in 2004 and officially inaugurated in 2006, it has become an important reference center for medical research in the region. It focuses on three main priorities: medical education, research and patient care. Ponderas pursues excellence in medical research and education. The research center has experienced rapid growth, with more than 250 dedicated professors, doctors, and researchers currently collaborating with a broad range of specialized institutes and hospitals across the country. Research activities cover a myriad of areas including biomedical engineering, cell biology, genetics, biostatistics and epidemiology, bioinformatics, and public health. In addition to scientific training and research activities, the center is active in providing medical services and patient care. Ponderas owns several ultra-modern medical installations that provide treatments for a number of specializations and medical conditions. It has also been active in developing new and innovative surgical techniques, as well as researching effective treatments for rare diseases. The center also serves a major educational role, with nearly 1,500 students enrolled in medical, pharmacy and engineering courses. With its strong focus on medical research and education, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iasi, Romania is able to offer world-class medical professionals and researchers, ready to serve the needs of their region and to contribute to the global health system.
