Polyarthralgia Causes Courses

Polyarthralgia is a condition that is characterized by pain or discomfort in multiple joints. It can range from mild to severe and in some cases can worsen over time. There are several potential causes of polyarthralgia, including autoimmune disorders, joint injury or infection, medications, metabolic disorders, and other conditions and diseases. Autoimmune disorders: With autoimmune disorders, the body’s immune system attacks healthy tissue, leading to pain and stiffness in the affected areas. Examples of autoimmune disorders that can cause polyarthralgia include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, gout, and Sjogren’s syndrome. Joint Injury or Infection: Injury to a joint, such as a sprain or fracture, can cause swelling, pain, stiffness, and other symptoms. Severe joint infections can also lead to polyarthralgia. Medications: Certain medications can lead to joint pain as a side effect of their use. Corticosteroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,, and monoclonal antibodies are all examples of medications that can cause polyarthralgia in rare instances. Metabolic Disorders: High levels of uric acid in the blood (hyperuricemia), caused by certain metabolic disorders, can lead to gout and polyarthralgia. Other Conditions and Diseases: Other causes of polyarthralgia include chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, viral and bacterial infections, thyroid disease, and hypothyroidism. Knowing the potential causes of polyarthralgia can help a person receive the appropriate diagnosis and treatment. It is important to discuss any symptoms of polyarthralgia with a healthcare provider. After performing a physical exam, the doctor might order imaging tests or blood tests to confirm a diagnosis. Treatment for polyarthralgia depends on the underlying cause and can include rest, exercise, physical therapy, medications, and lifestyle changes.
