Pododermatitis Causes Courses
Pododermatitis is a condition which affects the paws and skin of a dog, causing inflammation and irritation. It can be extremely painful and uncomfortable for the animal. The most common cause of pododermatitis is an allergy to something in the environment, such as pollen, grass, molds, or fleas. This causes an inflammatory reaction in the dog's paws which causes the skin to become sore and inflamed. This can lead to swelling, hair loss, and even ulcers. Another common cause of pododermatitis is an infection of the skin. Bacterial, fungal, and yeast infections can occur in the paw pads, leading to inflammation and discomfort. Dogs that are predisposed to skin infections due to genetic issues, or weakened immune systems, are more likely to develop pododermatitis. Injury to the paw pads can also cause pododermatitis, as it will damage the skin and lead to inflammation. Dogs that walk on rough surfaces, or ones with painful foot conditions like arthritis, can easily injure the pads of their feet. Finally, poor hygiene of the paws can lead to pododermatitis. If the area is not cleaned frequently, bacteria and other organisms can build up and lead to an inflammatory response. It is essential to keep your dog's paw pads clean and dry, as well as trim the hair between the toes regularly to help prevent this condition.
