Pimobendan is a type of drug belonging to the class of inodilators. It is used to control high blood pressure within the heart and works by relaxing the smooth muscle within the walls of the arteries and veins, thus improving the blood flow and decreasing the pressure on the walls of the vessel. Pimobendan is used to treat cardiac insufficiency in both cats and dogs, and is also given to young animals to improve the contractility of the heart in cases of dilated cardiomyopathy. It is believed to be an effective drug for controlling high blood pressure and is generally well-tolerated by pets.
