Phtls courses in Rochester provide lifesaving information for individuals in the medical field. The Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Course is a thirteen-hour program designed to provide healthcare providers with prehospital lifesaving knowledge and skills specific to the care and management of critically ill or injured patients. The PHTLS program is sponsored in Rochester by St. John Fisher College, and focuses on three main principles: prehospital care, comprehensive medical training in trauma, and trauma education. The course covers topics such as assessment of the trauma patient, education on hemorrhage control, recognition and initial management of shock, recognition and initial management of major trauma, airway and ventilation management, chest injury management, and evaluation and treatment of multiple trauma. Rochester’s PHTLS course is a two-day course offered to healthcare providers such as paramedics, nurses, EMTs, firefighters, law enforcement and other prehospital personnel. The course fee includes course registration and access to the PHTLS Manual, a valuable resource for the student. Students who attend the course and successfully complete the written exam and skills session are eligible to receive a certificate of completion and certification as a “PHTLS Provider” from the NAEMSP (National Association of Emergency Medical Service Providers).
