Pescadoras Courses
Pescadoras is a term used in the Latinx community to describe a strong and independent woman who is willing to take risks to build a better life for herself and her family. A pescadora is a modern day woman who is educated and speaks several languages, is living in a country other than her native one, is working hard to achieve her professional and economic goals and is determined to overcome all obstacles and limitations in her path to success. Pescadoras are taught to be independent and to be the best they can be. They know that hard work and perseverance will be rewarded. For the majority of pescadoras, this means taking jobs that are often difficult, dirty and dangerous such as fishing, agriculture, construction, mining and even jobs in the informal economy, such as street peddling. Because of their hard work and determination, pescadoras have been able to break barriers and become more independent. They have been able to build successful businesses, send their children to school and provide better living conditions for themselves and their families. In the process, pescadoras have also become seen as role models in their communities and a source of pride and hope for Latinx women everywhere.
