Perfalgan is a brand name of the drug paracetamol which is commonly used to treat mild to moderate pain and fever. It belongs to the class of drugs called analgesics (pain relief medications). Perfalgan comes in both tablet and solution (liquid) form and is generally used to treat mild to moderate pain such as headache, muscle pain, backache, period pain, or fever. It is also used to treat mild to moderate pain caused by inflammation (swelling), such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Perfalgan works by blocking a particular group of chemicals in the body which are known as prostaglandins. This blocking of the prostaglandins helps reduce pain and fever. Perfalgan is a safe and effective medication for the relief of pain however it can have side effects. The most common side effects are nausea and vomiting, but these usually occur shortly after taking the medication and can be easily controlled with appropriate medication. Other side effects reported with Perfalgan use include rash, drowsiness, difficulty sleeping, and ringing in the ears. Some rare cases of breathing difficulty, difficulty concentrating, and confusion have also been reported. If you are taking Perfalgan, it is important to read and follow all of the instructions provided. It is also important to keep up with the recommended dosage schedules and to not use it for more than the prescribed length of time.
