Peptidase Courses
Peptidase, also known as a protease, is a type of enzyme that plays a crucial role in the breakdown of proteins into their constituent amino acids. Peptidases are responsible for the digestion of proteins into smaller peptides and ultimately individual amino acids. In addition, this enzyme is also necessary for the functioning of other proteins and enzymes. Peptidases are produced in the pancreas and intestine, and are also found in certain bacteria and viruses. Peptidases break down proteins by breaking the peptide bond which holds the amino acid monomers together. Once this cleavage has taken place, the individual amino acids can be absorbed by the digestive tract and carried into cells. Peptidases have an important role to play in improving the digestion of proteins and in maintaining good health. If proteins are insufficiently broken down, they can pass through the digestive system without being broken down and can lead to inflammation. Peptidase is widely used in research and the pharmaceutical industry. They are used to produce peptides and amino acids which can be used as pharmaceuticals and diagnostic reagents. They are also used in food processing and to test for the presence of potential allergens. Peptidases can also be used for medical purposes in humans, as they can be used to treat certain conditions such as high blood pressure, obesity, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis.
