Pcos Causes Obesity Courses
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that is estimated to affect up to 1 in 10 women of reproductive age. The cause of PCOS is not fully understood, although it is thought to have genetic and environmental components. One possible side effect of PCOS is obesity, due to an imbalance of the hormones insulin, testosterone, and estrogen, which can lead to increased appetite, fluid retention, and/or decreased physical activity. In addition to the potential hormonal imbalance, PCOS may also lead to weight gain because of a disruption of the body’s ability to properly process sugar and carbohydrates. Women with PCOS often have a resistance to the body’s natural production of insulin. This condition, known as insulin resistance, leads to the body storing excess sugar in the blood rather than using it as energy. Over time, this can lead to weight gain. PCOS can also cause an increased production of hormones, such as testosterone, which can lead to an increase in fat storage in the abdominal area. This can cause an increase in the circumference of the waist, leading to a greater risk of obesity and associated health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease. PCOS does not cause obesity directly, but can be a contributor to this condition for many women. However, lifestyle changes, such as incorporating a healthy diet, increasing physical activity, reducing stress levels, and obtaining regular medical care, can help to manage PCOS and reduce the risk of becoming obese from this condition.
