Paver Soldier Course

Paver Soldier Course is an innovative, science-based and evidence-based training program designed to improve Soldiers’ physical performance, enhance their tactical effectiveness, and increase their mental toughness. The program was developed by the US Army Training and Doctrine Command in response to the “Physical Demands Analysis” study of Soldiers’ physical fitness needs. This comprehensive program is designed to help Soldiers in all aspects of their physical performance and focuses on improving their competence and confidence as they navigate the rigors of leadership, physical fitness training, marksmanship, strength and conditioning, and nutrition. The Paver Soldier Course consists of five overarching physical and cognitive tasks: Physical Readiness Training (PRT), Strength and Conditioning (S&C), Tactical Conditioning (TC), Mission Readiness (MR), and Marksmanship (MS). Each task is built upon the foundation of real-world knowledge, practical experience, and evidence-based science elements. The course provides a holistic approach to physical training, based on the five principle tasks, rather than focusing on singular elements. The Paver Soldier Course is designed to improve Soldiers’ physical and cognitive abilities by providing integrated and relevant training that is tailored to their individual needs. It seeks to keep Soldiers mentally, psychologically, and physically resilient in order to maximize their combat effectiveness. The course also focuses on helping them build the confidence and competence needed to perform their mission in a variety of operational conditions. In addition, the program also uses scientifically proven training methods to reduce attrition, foster team cohesion, and facilitate the development of new skills and capabilities.
