Parotidas Ingles Courses
The parotid glands are located in the cheeks of humans, just in front of and below the ears. They are a pair of salivary glands responsible for the production of saliva that helps with digestion. They are the largest of the salivary glands, and in English, they are commonly referred to as the parotid glands. Parotid glands are crucial to the process of digestion and are composed of two parts: the serous glands and the mucous glands. The serous glands produce a watery fluid that helps moisten food, while the mucous cells produce a more viscous fluid that helps bind food particles together. These important substances serve to break down food and make it easier to swallow. Parotid ducts carry saliva from the parotid glands to the mouth, where it helps with the mastication of food. The saliva produced by the parotid glands also helps to cleanse the teeth and gums, while providing some protection against bacteria. Parotid swelling can be indicative of an underlying disorder or infection, and can be accompanied by pain, redness or discharge from the affected area. Swellings of the parotid glands require medical attention and can sometimes require surgery or antibiotics to treat the underlying condition.
