Palakasan System Courses
The Palakasan System is a system of hierarchical meritocracy found in various Filipino organisations, wherein a person's rank or position and the associated privileges depend on his or her performance. It has been used since the days of Spanish colonialism in the Philippines, and is still in use in many companies and governments today. The term Palakasan comes from the Tagalog verb “palakasan,” which literally means to strengthen. This system of hierarchy is based on the idea of strengthening one’s position or status within the organisation based on one’s performance in certain areas. This system of meritocracy incentivises employees to be more diligent, responsible and effective in their job, so that they can move up the ladder of the organisation. Under the Palakasan System, employees are evaluated with regards to various criteria, such as their age, seniority, skill level, work experience, contribution to the success of the organisation, and so on. These factors are then taken into account when rewarding employees and in granting promotions. This system of meritocracy has been beneficial for organisations in the Philippines, as it encourages employees to work hard and rewards them accordingly. There is also improved loyalty among the employees due to a sense of job security and the possibility of attaining higher positions within the organisation. The Palakasan System can have some drawbacks, though, such as a lack of transparency in the decision-making process and an emphasis on individual achievement. Furthermore, there may be a lack of intelligence or creativity in decision-making as people often rely on their own experience and skill to make decisions. Nevertheless, the Palakasan System remains a popular system of meritocracy in the Philippines, and is utilised by many companies and governments. It is a key part of Filipino culture, and without it, many companies and organisations would suffer. Many people within the Filipino culture today remain committed to this system, and it continues to be valued by many.
