Pacu Training Courses

PACU training courses provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to adequately assess and care for post-anesthesia patients. The courses provide participants with an in-depth understanding of post-operative recovery, critical care in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), and the management of pain and sedation. Participants learn about patient assessment, resuscitation, and ventilation strategies, pharmacology, documentation of patient care, and more. Participants also gain powerful insights into how to provide superior patient care to a variety of patients in the PACU. Training courses also guide learners through topics such as how to provide preoperative patient assessment, how to properly initiate a patient into the PACU, how to assess, monitor, and document a patient’s condition, how to define and prioritize interventions, and how to appropriately respond to critical situations. Attendees can expect to complete a variety of activities during these courses, including lectures, discussions, hands-on demonstrations, and role-playing. PACU training courses may also include On-the-Job-Training (OJT) or simulated patient case scenarios to help reinforce the material learned in the course. Most PACU training courses also cover safety protocols, patient rights, and quality improvement competency. After completing a PACU training course, healthcare professionals should be prepared to adapt and adjust to the patient’s immediate physical, psychological, and emotional needs.
