P0700 Cause Courses

P0700 is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicating a general transmission malfunction. It’s one of the more serious transmission codes, and its code usually triggers the Check Engine Light (CEL). The P0700 is an informational code only, and it provides no indication of the exact cause of the malfunction. The cause of the code could be any number of underlying issues from a deteriorated transmission fluid to a faulty shift solenoid. The most common causes for the P0700 code are problems with the transmission fluid temperature sensor, fluid pressure sensor, shift solenoids, wiring, connectors and seals. Other causes can include worn CV joints, a faulty torque converter, damaged or faulty transmission oil pump, broken transmission shift linkage and failure of the valve body. The exact cause of the P0700 code should be determined by a trained technician using an OBD-II code reader and a thorough visual, mechanic and electrical inspection of the transmission system.
