OHSU/OSU School of Medicine students enjoy a variety of class options. The school prides itself on offering an integrated curriculum that allows students to advance their medical knowledge, skills and competencies across all four years of medical school. 1st-year courses focus on body systems, physical diagnosis, and basic medical science principles. 2nd-year classes emphasize pathophysiology and clinical skills such as patient interviewing techniques and diagnostics. 3rd-year rotations provide a real-world setting in which to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to clinical practice. Fourth-year electives afford the opportunity to learn about specialized areas of medicine. OHSU/OSU School of Medicine offers various seminars, workshops and Special Interest Groups (SIGs). A series of “Grand Rounds” seminars are offered throughout the year that researchers and lectures address current issues and share their perspectives on topics in medicine. Special Interest Groups (SIGs) focus on promoting medical student education and social/professional development. SIGs also provide a forum for students to further their medical knowledge and to debate and discuss current issues. In addition to traditional classroom learning, the school encourages students to apply their knowledge and skills to research, clinical work, and outreach. Research at OHSU/OSU School of Medicine and the many research opportunities provide students with the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a meaningful way. Other opportunities include clinical rotations, student-led medical home visits, clinic visits, and volunteer activities with the Portland community. OHSU/OSU School of Medicine provides an education rich in experience, knowledge, and skills.
