Ognenas Koromanas Courses
Ognenas Koromanas was a Macedonian sculptor of the 20th century. He is best known for his sculptures of graceful female figures in classical, graceful poses. In addition to his bronze works, Koromanas created a number of works in marble, granite and reinforced concrete. Koromanas was born in the village of Churkinovo in northern Macedonia in 1923. He studied stone carving with master craftsmen as a young man and then went to study sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Skopje, Macedonia in 1945. After graduating, he returned to his hometown to work as a sculptor in custom work for a local marble company. He opened his own studio in Skopje in 1956 and created a number of sculptures for public commissions. Koromanas was particularly well known for the beautiful female figures that he created, which often featured a combination of classical and modern styles. His works are often seen as depicting female grace and beauty in its purest form. Among his most famous sculptures is the "Naked Goddess" (1977). The work features a female figure in a traditional, semi-classical pose, baring her chest to the public. Koromanas' works were exhibited extensively, particularly in his home country of Macedonia. He was an important contributor the country's artistic reputation and, in 2013, he was inducted into the Macedonian Arts Hall of Fame. His works can still be found in many public collections in Macedonia and beyond, attesting to his skill as a sculptor and his important place in Macedonian sculpture.
