Certification for this type of anesthesia is now recognized and accepted by the state board in most states. After completion of a course and certification, the dental hygienist can administer and monitor nitrous oxide in the dental treatment setting. The important thing to remember when it comes to nitrous oxide courses for dental hygienists is that it should be taken from a school, organization, or body, with recognized credentials and certification. Taking a course from an unaccredited source or not completing a certification program can be of no use in states where certification is required.
